Because that's the latest scare? That will get them elected? Why are they not talking about all the alcohol related deaths each year (much more than by guns). Many repeat offenders that drink and drive with or without a license. Why do we need to teach kids in kindergarden about transgenders?
WHYYYYYYYY???????????WHYYYYYYYYYY??????????

Its all about the votes.. Found this from a show I have listened to off and on over the last couple decades, its now a podcast, Garage Logic.

Conundrum:

Free people are not equal.
Equal people are not free.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one,
you'll probably never need one again.

The definition of the word Conundrum is: Something that is puzzling or confusing.

Here are six conundrums of socialism:

In the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century. Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering...

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money?

What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

Think about it.....

And Last but not least:

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Am I the only one missing something?

Because the people that think "those poor people" are "stealing their money" (through the government taxation) are voting for the people that are corrupt and allowing corporations to give the kind of poor pay and lack of benefits that means the government has to step in with subsidies (essentially "corporate welfare") to provide for the employees what the greedy corporations are not.

Abso-fucking-lutely we should be providing more, not less, benefits to veterans! They have sacrificed for our country, then, they are treated like shit if they happened to have been damaged in teh war they fought in, for us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, people in other countries have things that I, as an American, "only dream about" : 1) A citizenship which is not only accepting, but HAPPY to pay high taxes which greatly benefits their society as a whole, 2) Universal Healthcare, 3) Regulated prescription drug prices - this means that widely used life-saving medications which are cheap to produce are sold at a reasonable price in other countries (such as $17 / month for an inhaled preventative asthma medication in Japan, costs me $100 CO-PAY WITH INSURANCE so that I have to choose between whether I want my kid to have less asthma, or, I want my kid to eat healthy foods without chemicals such as cancer causing herbicides and pesticides, but I can't afford both, because the government will take away subsidies from the farmer if, God forbid, they lease out some of their land to organic vegetable farmers).

BTW, I have 2 college degrees and worked for 25 years, not counting the years that I worked while I was IN college but Social Security
said I didn't deserve my benefits after I had the stroke AND continue to have seizers to this day. So I had to take THEM to court.

WTF ??? :eh:

I paid into the system all that time but I deserve SQUAT, huh.
The judge said to the prosecutor to,"Quit wasting his time".
Needless to say I got my benefits but why did I have to go thru all that.

I'm fairly well educated (I think),
I worked hard as an engineer for 25 years,
I paid A LOT into the system,
And I'm legally disabled.
But they give me a hard time. :x

Does S.S. mean Social Security ?
Because it seems like it could be run by Nazis. :problem:

Thinman: no, it absolutely should not be a difficult/stressful process for anyone who clearly should be getting the benefits.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problems in this country, to a large extent, come down to misunderstanding and misinformation.

The word "socialism" scares people, but the truth is, Universal Healthcare + regulated costs for medicines + care would cut the cost of healthcare in half for this country. It's the ignorant/lying a-holes saying things like "it's a pipe dream" or "it's not realistic" that are the unpatriotic ones, "unAmerican" even - "of, by, and for The People" does not mean that the govt. is supposed to be corrupted by the money of wealthy elites and big corporations to further their ability to squeeze the money out of the middle class pushing many of them down and out of the "American Dream", and then turn around and blame them for the tax burden.

CEOs, executives, and shareholders benefiting from price gouging on medications that are not new or innovative, but rather, have been the ones people have depended on for years, even decades, such as: insulin, "epi pens", and asthma inhalers, should be charged with murder and other serious crimes - they are literally killing people by charging unreasonably high prices at the same time as insurance prices have gone up, benefits have gone down, and the COPAY / deductibles alone are many times higher than one anyone in the rest of the world would pay for the drugs even if they didn't have insurance. For example, the inhaler I need to keep me from having asthma (a preventative medication that I would take daily) costs $100 per month copay, or, over $340 w/o insurance, but in Japan, it costs $17. So, people try to blame Obama care for these increased insurance prices, but that's actually not reasonable, the blame falls squarely on corporate greed in an industry that really shouldn't be "for profit" in the first place!

Its a total conundrum Chris. Most of the falsehoods you are talking about are created by the government, yet the government is the answer?

One example: What we eat, the food pyramid, created by the government, its totally upside down. It causes all the problems that apparently free health care would solve.

For the record eat what you wanna eat, but hopefully get educated first, but not by the government which lends its hands to all our institutions that get you sick in the first place.

Is a lifetime of sugar and carbs all day better then a lifetime of whole foods and alcohol after work better for you? I really honestly dont know which is worse, but I do know neither is best, well, besides the whole foods.

What you are talking about is crony capitalism, and as a capitalist, I say fuck that, which brings me back to the government fucking it up in the first place, which you want to solve the problem with....

More government

I am not totally anti government btw but name me one thing it does properly? I can name one and eliminate it. The FAA, its pretty rare for planes to be falling out of the sky in the US, well besides 911, but its pretty good otherwise.

So please, name some other things the government is successful at, and I know there are many, sorta in a micro sense.

ww2 for example,,

To do big things in the US like build new rail lines it costs WAY more than it does in most other countries - why? It's simple : greed and corruption.

You say, basically: "govt. sucks so more govt. is not the answer".

I say, yeah, govt. sucks, and a huge part of that is because of assholes like Dick Cheney and Mitch McConnell and stupid as fuck pieces [of law/court rulings] such as "Citizen's United", asshole rich people like the Koch bros., etc.

Yes, I agree about food, and you know why we have many problems with things like "food pyramids" - because of money/corporate influence on govt. they use bribes which are called "campaign contributions" to scare politicians away from being honest, away from DOING THEIR FUCKING JOB which is to make govt. work for The People.

We need to take corporate lobbyists who exert undo influence on our govt. and kick them in the fucking teeth then throw them under a buss, after we smash their genitals in car doors then curb stomp their faces just like a fat racist cop would do to a black man who was handcuffed face down on the sidewalk. Otherwise, we're not going to get farmers to grow food without toxic cancer causing chemicals and we're not going to stop corporations from practically force feeding sugar syrup (soda) and high starch/high salt/high fat over-processed foods down the throats of most of the US population - you see, corporations make more money selling Twinkies than the do selling apples, factor in "farm subsidies" which go almost exclusively to crops like corn/wheat/soy and the problem is exacerbated by an order of magnitude...

Well, I like: having roads to drive on, fire departments, police, public schools, prisons to hold the most violent and unrepentant criminals, unemployment insurance, Social Security, food stamps, medicare/medicaid, and, an army to stop some place like China/Russia/North Korea from saying: "hey, that looks like a good country to take over, they got a lot of good resources - even if we can't keep the population under control, we could go in and take a bunch of stuff then leave..."

roads suck mostly, fire departments rule, police are the enemy now so i see, public schools indoctrinate kids towards government rule, socialism, prisons make someone rich and granted there is reason for prisons,, social security fails in about 20 years so lets bail that shit out, food stamps, everyone is happy fat,.. ok china/russia/north korea.. all paper tigers in my mind, btw north korea is a weak example, i would have went with iran or something. Russia is nothing cept they have nukes, china is nothing cept they have nukes.. they are not gonna nuke
